How do you ship cargo to Nigeria from the UK?
Two routes, one depot. Sea freight through Apapa and Tin Can Island in Lagos is the economical choice for barrels, boxes, furniture, household goods, vehicles and full 20ft/40ft containers — sailings are frequent and Lagos is West Africa's busiest gateway. Air freight into Lagos and Abuja suits urgent, fragile or high-value items, landing in days. We handle LCL/groupage (share a container) and FCL, with nationwide UK collection into our Dagenham depot.
How long does shipping from the UK to Nigeria take?
Sea cargo to Lagos typically takes 4–6 weeks port-to-port plus inland delivery to your recipient's city. Air freight to Lagos or Abuja is usually a few working days. We quote a realistic window per shipment so your family can plan around it, and keep you updated as the cargo moves.
What does it cost to ship to Nigeria?
Air freight is £5.90 per kg plus a £20 handling charge. Sea cargo starts from £70 per bag and varies with volume and barrel/box count — call or email for a quote. Car shipping (UK→Nigeria) and full 20ft/40ft containers are quote-only. Everything is priced all-in, in GBP — no surprise charges billed to your family at the Nigerian end.
Door-to-door delivery in Nigeria
We collect from any UK address into our Dagenham depot, ship, clear customs and deliver to the recipient's door — Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt, Benin City, Onitsha, Aba, Kano and beyond. Prefer to drop off with us and have family collect at the other end? That works too. True door-to-door is what separates us from forwarders who only reach the port.
Nigeria customs — Form M & SONCAP
Commercial imports into Nigeria generally require Form M (registered through a Nigerian bank on the Trade Monitoring System) and, for regulated goods, a SONCAP certificate confirming product standards. Duty and VAT are assessed on arrival. We prepare and coordinate the paperwork end-to-end — Form M, SONCAP, PAAR and the commercial documentation — so your shipment isn't held, and advise on prohibited items before you ship.
Shipping a car to Nigeria from the UK
Rolats ships cars, vans, SUVs and trucks to Nigeria (UK→Nigeria only) by container and RoRo via Lagos. Note Nigeria's vehicle-age rules and left-hand-drive considerations — we advise on duty and the documents customs will ask for. Pricing is quote-only; send the make, model and year for a firm figure.
What can you send to Nigeria?
Barrels and boxes, personal effects and household removals, electronics, food parcels, commercial stock, cars and documents — by air or sea, to any of the 36 states and the FCT.
