Rolats ships cars from the UK to Nigeria by RoRo or container via the Port of Lagos (Tin Can Island and PTML terminals). We collect your vehicle anywhere in the UK to our Dagenham depot, load, ship, and arrange clearance and delivery in Lagos, Abuja and nationwide. Import duty and levies are paid at the Nigerian end. Car shipping is UK to Nigeria only. Pricing is POA, so call or email for a quote.

How do you ship car to Nigeria from the UK?

There are two routes. RoRo (Roll-on/Roll-off) is the simplest and usually the most economical option: your car is driven onto a dedicated vehicle vessel and secured for the voyage, then driven off at Lagos. Container shipping loads the vehicle into a 20ft or 40ft container, which protects it from the elements and lets you load personal effects around it (subject to customs rules), ideal for higher-value or classic cars. Both routes discharge at the Lagos port complex (Tin Can Island / PTML). We advise which suits your vehicle, budget and timeline. Car shipping with Rolats is UK to Nigeria only; we do not ship vehicles on the reverse leg.

The process from collection to delivery

  • Quote and booking - send us the make, model, year and your collection postcode; we confirm a POA price and sailing.
  • UK collection - we collect the car from your address, or you drop it at our Dagenham depot, 494 Gale Street, RM9 4NU.
  • Loading and sailing - the vehicle is documented, loaded (RoRo or stuffed into a container) and shipped to Lagos.
  • Clearance - on arrival the car clears Nigeria Customs; import duty, levies and applicable charges are payable at destination.
  • Delivery - collect at the port, or we arrange onward delivery to Lagos, Abuja and across all 36 states.

Car import duty in Nigeria

Nigeria charges import duty plus levies on imported vehicles, assessed by Customs on arrival against the vehicle's value and category. Rates and any age restrictions or surcharges on older vehicles change with policy, so we flag the current position before you ship so there are no surprises. Nigeria drives on the right (left-hand-drive convention), but UK right-hand-drive vehicles are widely imported and used. Send us the vehicle details and we'll confirm what to expect at clearance.

How long does it take and what does it cost?

Transit to Lagos is typically a few weeks by sea, plus clearance and inland delivery. Pricing is POA - RoRo and container rates depend on vehicle size, route and season, so we quote each car individually.
