How do you ship cargo to Kenya from the UK?
Two routes. Sea freight through Mombasa is the cost-effective choice for barrels, boxes, furniture, household goods and full 20ft/40ft containers — ideal when timing is flexible. Air freight via Nairobi JKIA is for urgent, fragile or high-value items, arriving in days rather than weeks. We handle LCL/groupage (share a container) and FCL (your own 20ft or 40ft), with collection anywhere in the UK into our Dagenham depot.
How long does shipping from the UK to Kenya take?
Sea cargo to Mombasa generally takes 5–7 weeks port-to-port plus inland delivery; some services transship via Salalah or Jebel Ali, which can add a few days. Air freight to Nairobi is typically a few working days. We quote a realistic window per shipment — Mombasa congestion can occasionally extend sea timelines.
What does it cost to ship to Kenya?
Air freight is £5.90 per kg plus a £20 handling charge. Sea cargo starts from £70 per bag and varies with volume — call or email for a quote. Car shipping (UK→Kenya) and full 20ft/40ft containers are quote-only. Everything is priced all-in, in GBP — no surprise charges billed to your family at the Kenyan end.
Door-to-door delivery in Kenya
We collect from any UK address into our Dagenham depot, ship, clear customs, and deliver to the recipient's door — Nairobi, Mombasa, Kisumu, Nakuru, Eldoret and across all 47 counties. Prefer to drop off and have family collect at the other end? That works too.
Kenya customs — what you need
Imports into Kenya clear on an IDF (Import Declaration Form) and are inspected by the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) Customs at Mombasa or JKIA. Import duty, VAT and a Railway Development Levy are payable on arrival. We prepare the documentation so your cargo isn't held — and advise on restricted items (e.g. used electronics, certain foodstuffs) before you ship.
Shipping a car to Kenya from the UK
Rolats ships cars, vans and SUVs to Kenya (UK→Kenya only) by RoRo or container via Mombasa. Kenya is a right-hand-drive market (UK vehicles suit it) but enforces an 8-year age limit and KEBS pre-export inspection — we guide you through both. Car shipping is quote-only.
What can you send to Kenya?
Barrels and boxes, personal effects and household removals, electronics, food parcels, commercial stock, cars, and documents — by air or sea.
