Rolats ships cars from the UK to Ghana by RoRo or container via the Port of Tema. We collect your vehicle anywhere in the UK to our Dagenham depot, ship to Tema, and arrange GRA/ICUMS clearance and delivery to Accra, Kumasi and beyond. Ghana applies ECOWAS duty based on engine size, with penalties on older vehicles. Car shipping is UK to Ghana only. Pricing is POA, so call or email for a quote.
How do you ship a car to Ghana from the UK?
Two options. RoRo (Roll-on/Roll-off) is the most popular and cost-effective: the car is driven onto a vehicle vessel and off again at Tema, Ghana's main commercial port serving Accra. Container shipping (20ft or 40ft) protects the vehicle and allows personal effects to be loaded around it, subject to customs rules. We handle either, collecting from any UK address into our Dagenham depot before sailing. Car shipping with Rolats is UK to Ghana only; we do not ship vehicles on the reverse leg.
How much does it cost to ship a car to Ghana?
Pricing is POA. RoRo and container rates depend on the vehicle's size, the sailing and the season, so we quote each car individually, all-in, in GBP. Just as important is the duty payable in Ghana on arrival, which is separate from the shipping cost (see below). The process from collection to delivery
- Quote and booking - send the make, model, year and collection postcode.
- UK collection - door collection or drop-off at our Dagenham depot, 494 Gale Street, RM9 4NU.
- Loading and sailing - documented and shipped (RoRo or container) to Tema.
- GRA/ICUMS clearance - the car clears through the Ghana Revenue Authority on the ICUMS (Integrated Customs Management System) platform; duty and levies are payable on arrival.
- Delivery - collect at Tema, or we deliver to Accra, Kumasi, Takoradi and nationwide.
Car import duty in Ghana - engine size and vehicle age
Ghana applies ECOWAS Common External Tariff duty, calculated largely by engine capacity (cc) - broadly, larger engines attract higher duty. Critically, Ghana imposes overage penalties on older vehicles: vehicles above a set age threshold attract additional charges, and very old vehicles can face steep penalties. Ghana drives on the right (left-hand-drive convention), though UK right-hand-drive cars are commonly imported. Because these rules change with each budget, we confirm the current duty band and any overage penalty for your specific vehicle before you commit.
